Hello friends- hope you all had a great weekend. Had yet another weird crazy (but fun) week here at HQ, and it looks like it's only gonna get crazier as the summer approaches. What happened last week? Took on a few new poster jobs to debut later this summer, began sketching 2 new prints for a show in June, started layout on a unique project that has me revisting an older illustration in a new format, continued work on May's Guild art print, and completed a bit of hand-finishing on the (sold out to sub holders) 'North of the Wall' APs before S/N for shipping this week.
UPDATE MAY 9: That G1988 AP sale I promised? Unfortunately because I'm still swamped getting pending orders out/hitting deadlines, I have to move the Gallery1988 AP sale one last time....
NEW PLAN- Gonna have the Gallery1988 AP onsale this MONDAY, MAY 13th. I need the weekend to be able to post new pics and some background info about the prints.
So sorry for the change, but I'm just too overwhelmed this week to do a proper onsale.
MAY'S SUB PRINT - this month I'll reveal the Guild subscription print on Friday, May 17th (instead of the 15th). Not only will this help me catch up on shipping, but leaving a little gap between onsales is a good thing for my brain!
"BEYOND THE PASS" update- Printing hit slight snag last week but is now back on
track, should now have these in hand to start shipping next week; a color issue arose during production so for quality's sake we went back and started over to get 'em looking just right, should look even better now-- any questions about your individual order please shoot me a mail.
Please check back this weekend for pics of the G1988 show prints and some more info about Monday's onsale. Talk to you soon!--JC

Hello my friends- Thanks for waiting for me today. Lots going on, but let's just get to the art. So happy to finally debut this month's art print (and first Guild release); I needed a journey back into the mountains...been far too long...
Titled "Beyond the Pass", this one is a 36"x12" 6-color screenprint. I do hope to live there one day.
The print will go on sale tomorrow (Tuesday, April 16th) at 3PM EST. Just come back to the blog here and I'll make a new post with BUY buttons and instructions.
Thanks all for listening- hope to see some of you back here tomorrow!

One for you, nineteen for me...
Hello my friends-
Hope you've all been doing well, it's been too long since we've talked. Between lots of commercial work, prepping for misc. shows and preparing/getting over taxes, it's been crazy over here at microcosmicmedia HQ.. but relief is in sight...
At least I've been having a bit of fun- just completed work on the newest art print (and the first of the Nature Guild subscription!). Due to a bit of unexpected travel this morning, I'll reveal the print sometime later this afternoon.
After the reveal, the print will go up for general sale tomorrow, Tuesday the 16th at 3pm EST.
See you all this afternoon! -JC

It's coming together: Subscriptions & stuff
Hello friends- I've been promising some of you for years now that I'd get my act together and offer a yearly subscription. Well after a long delay, happy to report that I've finally nailed down the details and will offer a LE Art Print Subscription for 2013-14.
UPDATE: All subscription slots are filled for this year, thanks everyone!
I'd like to keep the sub number small so I'll give out the purchase info first to the mailing list members, and then if there's any spots left I'll update everyone everywhere else soon after.
To answer 2 common questions I've been getting: Yes, subscription numbers will be assigned first come, first served. And yes, those who sign up will also get first crack at anything done outside the art print subscription (ie Mondo).
"Sound of a New World Being Born" - AP onsale
Thanks again to all who came out to support our 2-man show at Gallery 1988, bought something online or just watched the proceedings from afar. Justin Santora and I had a great time putting the show together, couldn't have asked for a better partner for this endeavor.
Just got the last of my artist's copies in-- after I organize the subscriptions we'll do the AP sale, most likely early next week. Any questions, feel free to shoot me an email -JC

Game of Thrones - "North of the Wall" print for Mondo
I was honored to be able to make a print for the Mondo poster series for HBO's epic Game of Thrones. "North of the Wall" is 36x15.5, 6-color screen print, and will be for sale on Thursday, March 14th at a random time on Mondo's site.
This is the fourth poster released in the series, and the rest will drop as we get closer to the premiere of Season 3 on 3/31.
Can you spot the Mondo logo?

Show 'outtakes'
As much as I got done for the show, there were a few pieces that didn't make it in for some reason (mainly the time crunch). Many of these will likely make it to print in one form or another, but I'll try to tease some of them here before that..
Here's a piece of an image that would have hung next to the other 'Vacation'-themed print:

"The Sound of a New World Being Born" @ Gallery 1988
What a great night... much thanks to all who came out and supported us on Friday. The highlight was definitely getting to meet everyone. I had a blast talking art, screenprints and movies; the night flew by too fast. Hopefully I'll be back soon to catch up with some new friends.
Special thanks to everyone at the gallery for all their help- Katie and Jensen for letting us show in their space, and especially Amber for being so patient with me as I furiously worked onsite for a few days to get ready for the show. Also thanks to Justin Santora, a great artist and great guy- it was a pleasure to meet him for the first time as well. Such beautiful work, his detail is simply mindblowing up close.
If you're in the LA area and want to see the show in person, don't let that huge ugly 'we're moving' sign scare you; although it was the final opening at the space at 7020 Melrose, the show will be up to see until March 23rd. To see and purchase remaining prints and originals from the show, visit Gallery 1988's site.
If sold out, keep in mind I will have a small AP edition of the prints available, and will make that sale announcement ASAP. I'll talk to you soon; until then, some pics from the gallery:

Showtime!
Hello friends-
Wow what a busy month- finished up separations for a Mondo art print while doing sketches for 2 others, and completed 8- yes 8- new art prints for next month's big event.
What event you ask? All of this stuff will debut at a 2-man show coming up on March 1st at G1988/Melrose in LA. My partner in this one is the great Justin Santora (if you don't know his work do yourself a favor and discover it; I'm a big fan). Both of us will be at the opening causing as much trouble as possible, so if you're in the area come on down and say hello. I'll be bringing tons of new screenprints, a couple of OGs and blacklines, and Justin has a bunch of awesome painting and prints to bring as well. Very excited to show it all.
Tons of previews and more info coming in the next few days- just getting everything ready to go.
Talk to you all very soon-
-JC
PS For all those asking about the subscriptions-have not forgotten you guys- almost have all the details ready to go so stay tuned!

IN PROGRESS: Detail images and process ramblings..
Wanted to share a few details about my submission to the IN PROGRESS Mondo Gallery show that opened tonight in Austin. Looked like a great show to see in person- some of the more 'finished' pieces there were astounding; if you haven't checked out the images online, you should do that now.
My submission was a rougher concept piece- the "main body" pencil sketch for my Jurassic Park poster, and the first thing I ever did for a Mondo project.
I'm not very precious with most of my sketches, as they often start on whatever's handy at the time of inspiration- notepads, paper bags, backs of receipts; this one was no different. The sketch
started as just a Brachiosaurus study on a single worn sheet of paper, and
spilled onto a second as the tree concept came up as I worked. It
remains the only sketch of this part of the final poster; after roughing
out the tree and attempting a few quick wisps of clouds and foliage on the bottom, I
decided to just mount the 2 halves together for a scan and jump to the tablet.
Using the pencil as a guide, I re-drew the rough as a
separated color, adding the leaf and body detail seen on the final poster. As
soon as color choices fall into place, often one sketch
will be split up to form more than one layer; in this case I
used the single sketch to draw 2 layers (see above)- one became the 'gray'
making up the main body of the tree and brachiosaurus, and various small sections
were drawn on a second layer as a transparent yellow to add misc.
details to flat colors beneath. In fact, most of the leaves ended up on a third 'green' layer not shown here. The final poster ended up as 10 screens:
