Holiday Onsale 2011 details...

Hello friends,
Just wanted to drop a quick note about the onsale happening later today (Dec. 18) around 8PM EST.

I'll have some of the prints I did this year for Gallery 1988: the Hudsucker-themed Tidbits of Time (from Crazy4Cult) and A Thousand Years Wide (from Devil Town)- plus a few miscellaneous goodies I've dug out of the flatfile for the occasion. (sorry no Mondo stuff yet, those will have to wait until the new year)

Check back here at the onsale time- I'll make a new post with buy buttons etc. when the sale goes live. Thanks again everyone for all your support, hope to see some of you tonight!

New print - "Jurassic Park"

Hello friends-

Well I can finally spill the info on the next print - and it's the biggest one yet (literally)! I'm honored to be a part of the Jurassic Park series, brought to you by the fine folks at Mondo.

Mr. Horkey's take on the triumphant T-Rex in the first poster was so scary good that I wanted to go in a completely different direction to help showcase some other aspects of the movie that I (personally) found more compelling.

As exciting as some of the chase scenes are, I was always more impressed with the gentler, more awe-inspiring visual moments in the film. The 'scary monster on our heels' stuff was done before in countless movies, but the scenes that stuck with me were the fleeting moments between chases... characters could briefly reflect on their amazing surroundings and interact with these giants with sentiments other than 'RUN!' (That said, just had to include the Trex in there because let's face it- he's the hero of the flick).

Stay tuned to Mondo's site on Thursday, as the sale will happen at a random time (watch their twitter). There will also be a variant available without the titles/credits which will go up at the same time (don't ask which I like better, apples and oranges etc). If I do have any to sell later I'll let folks know through the mailing list etc.

As always, thanks for listening-

Still getting back on track but expect to have all the orders shipped out by the end of this week. If you still have a question about your individual order, please feel free to shoot me an email.

Can't thank you all enough for the support..  can't wait to share what's next!

Comatose, but still alive...

Hello friends,
Lots of news to share soon, wanted to let you all know the Sinful, Windborne onsale will be later this week, I'll nail down a time asap. Right now I'm in the middle of a marathon painting session, adding details to the skies one by one... time consuming as hell but worth it imo.

Unlike the Walden print--where I  left areas of the sky undefined so details could be painted in later--here I'm adding a bit of detail to the existing cloud layer. The basic layout won't change, but small patterns and details will vary from print to print.. hooray for uniqueness.

Why spend the extra time on each print? Quite simply- it just looks nicer, adding depth and some subtle shading to the clouds without having to dedicate a ton of colors to just that element... the only drawback is my hand quits after about 50, so shifts are necessary.

Should be done tomorrow, you'll be the first to know...

New Print - "We Keep Watch" for Novos

Hello friends, just a quick update with some 'late notice' onsale news--

As some of you are aware, I recently completed a promotional print for the scifi short called 'Novos'..  I'm just the artist on this one, all the presales will be handled by the Novos store site.  The prints will go up at 11am PST (2PM Eastern) on Friday, July 29th.

“We Keep Watch” is a 28″ x 12″, 10-color (with 2 fades) screenprint with an edition of 120. There are also Night and Mist variants with editions of 40.

This series is acting as a way to raise funds for Jonathan Brebner's sci-fi short 'Novos'. Go here to learn more about the project.

Crazy4Cult 5 print - 'Tidbits Of Time'

Hello friends, here are some detail images of my piece for the Crazy4Cult 5 show at Gallery 1988.  It's a 10-color screen print (with 2 fades), approx. 25.5"x15.5", edition of 95 (no variants were printed for this one).

This 'tidbit of time' shows the darkest moment for Norville Barnes, when the forces of greed and public shame begin to close in around him. All seems lost, until a noise from within the room breaks his concentration; suddenly he seems to forget the despair and pulls back from the brink, moving towards redemption and his second chance...

I consider The Hudsucker Proxy a severely underrated film, full of timeless themes such as good vs. evil, greed vs. passion and the eternal mortal struggle to make every moment count, especially when time itself seems pitted against you. ("Tidbits of Time" = the fictional newsreel title in the film).

In addition to being a great script, I've often thought it would make a fine stage production since many of the performances are deliberately exaggerated and even some of the sets look as if they were designed to resemble stage facades (seem to remember hearing about a Hudsucker college production?). There are a few additional characters joining Norville on this 'stage', with even Waring Hudsucker making an appearance.. sort of...

Crazy4Cult 5 - next week!

Hello friends,

Been far too long since the last post- hope you've all been doing well and staying busy. After my extended 'working' hibernation, I've finally made my way up out of the dark lair and into the sunlight to share some news about upcoming events/prints.

I was honored to participate in the fifth Crazy4Cult group show at Gallery1988/LA. Opening night is next Friday, July 8, so get down there if you're close by. Judging from the few pieces I've seen so far, it's going to be worth the trip. (Check out some previews here.)

For my part, I tried to pick something that--while certainly not obscure--doesn't seem to enjoy the amount of respect/admiration it deserves. Crazy4Cult gave me the opportunity to get out of the woods for a bit, to a much different setting.  Hopefully I'll have a few copies to sell after here after the show as well.

Other upcoming print news:

"Sinful, Windborne" will be released later this month, I'll let everyone know the exact details via the mailing list. Also plan on ramping up production a bit for the latter half of the year, so the next print should follow close on its heels.
That's all for now, until next week..

Shipping etc.

Hello friends,

Wanted to give everyone a fulfillment update on the Walden/art print orders: After a few marathon sessions, hands are aching, but finishing and titles are done...
Update 5/17:  All but a few stragglers have shipped (no notices go out unless requested), everyone in the US should have their prints by the end of the week.

*Also added a comparison pic to illustrate the differences between the show and art print sky details. The left one is the finished show version (one color clouds), and on the right is the art print with a second layer of lighter details added.

That's all for now, can't thank you enough for the support-JC

Walden Onsale Today!

Hello friends,
The onsale for the remaining Walden prints is happening today,  Friday, May 6th (sometime after noon EST). I'll make a new post with active paypal buttons at the time of the sale. See you then.-JC

*Contrary to info in the mailing list update, I decided to skip the separate shipping buttons this time.
Shipping will be a flat $6 (for international as well) and will be added automatically... much easier for everyone, life is stressful enough without extra mouse clickin'...

If your circles could be spirals, and your idols weren't machines...

I've been asked many times to do 'sequels' of certain prints (which is nice, since it means some of you actually notice the small "snapshot" character narratives I try to stick in there). 'Case for Sea Monsters' is mentioned most often in this scenario; after all, those two people have a nice boat, a serious sense of adventure and lots of free time on their hands (assuming the humpbacks didn't drag 'em down). It seems natural to ask, 'where else have they been?'

Since I was just as curious as anyone, thought it would be fun to check back in with the globe-trotting couple. The new print is titled Sinful, Windborne and this time, she goes first..

I'm also trying to honor requests for some smaller, 'standard-sized' prints, in order to make framing a less expensive proposition (can't promise they'll all be that way!) Size/color info on this one soon.-JC

A quick update...

Hello friends-
I can finally say that my remaining Walden prints are arriving soon! I'll plan on putting them up sometime after noon EST on FRIDAY May 6th (yes it was originally Thursday, but had to change it!)

Please check back later for more details, including my own pics of the actual printed matter.

Until then...

"Required Reading" Show Opening - Tonight!

As some of you may have read, I contributed a new print to the 'Required Reading' group show at Gallery1988 in Los Angeles. The opening reception is happening tonight, Friday April 15th at the gallery's Melrose location. The show is co-curated by Mitch Putnam of OMGPosters and (recent Grammy winner!) Rob Jones. The theme is classic novels and judging from what I've seen so far, it's going to be an excellent show.

Which novel did I end up with? Didn't want to spoil the surprise, but here's an early rough sketch if you want to guess. It's a book I revisit often--as well as quote in my head on a daily basis--so it was a true pleasure to be able to work on it.

For those that can't be at the opening, the gallery puts up anything that's left up on their site the day after the show. I'll also have a very limited number of prints available at microcosmicmedia.com sometime after that.

Spring Thaw

Hello friends-
Just coming out of hibernation to let everyone know we're alive and kicking..

What's new? Well, got a new screen print going in an upcoming show at gallery1988 in April; this one has been kept really quiet but I think a lot of people will dig the theme of the show, and hopefully the print itself. Of course I'll post more info when I have it.

Also, putting the finishing touches on the next microcosmicmedia release. To counter the insane amount of colors used for the show print mentioned above, I simplified things a bit for this one-- it was going to be one thing until it became another. Sometimes simple is best.

More to come soon-JC

Come rain, come snow, come hail or sleet...

The old mailman creed seems appropriate this week, as today makes 2 straight weeks of shoveling and ice chopping without a day off... even the snowblower seemed to roll its 'eyes' at me this morning as if to say, "Really, again?"

Wanted to let everyone know that last sale's orders started shipping, moving as fast as possible without damaging stuff.. I really appreciate your patience, hadn't planned everything selling out so quickly/having to ship so many tubes at once! If you have a question about your individual order, you can always shoot me a message.

UPDATE 2/15 - Just a handful of orders left to ship, getting all that remains out this week. My apologies to those who are still waiting, the upside is that a longer wait usually means an extra hbill or two makes it in the tube..

Anyway, hope you are all staying warm and enjoying some winter fun.
Here's a cool handbill I didn't get to show during the sale (around 12in)..this one's all about the wolf..  -JC

**PLEASE let me know if you have any problems with the order system, it's pretty rudimentary..

As with all screen prints, some colors/fades may appear slightly different than the examples pictured, it adds to the uniqueness of each print as no two are exactly alike. Please allow at least 1-2 weeks for delivery... I'm a one-man show and like to take the time to number/title/sign each print by hand, so I really appreciate your patience.

I do try to monitor stuff in real-time but can't be here every minute, so don't panic if something doesn't go as planned, just email me and we'll take care of it..

Details, details...

Here's some more detailed pics of "Sleeping In Light"
Hope to see all of you later this afternoon (Wed. the 26th) for the onsale. I'll make a new post here with 'BUY NOW' buttons for purchase when it's available:
